Happy Pancake Day!

What better way to celebrate Shrove Tuesday than with a giant stack of sweet sticky pancakes?! We chose fluffy American style blueberry pancakes to get us in the mood... calorie counters need not apply!
Fluffy Blueberry Pancakes with Fruit Compote
Pancakes
1 medium egg
300ml milk
200g self-raising flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Knob of butter
Oil to grease panTopping
Maple or Golden Syrup (depending on preference)
Mixed pack of berries (Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries or Raspberries)
1 Tbsp. sugar
Dusting of icing sugar (optional)
Prep
- Mix the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Whisk the egg and milk together separately in another bowl. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour the egg/milk mixture into the middle. Whisk together until it forms a smooth batter. Beat in the melted knob of butter and gently stir in the blueberries.
- Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a non-stick pan. Ladle a large tbsp. of batter into the pan. After 2-3 minutes you will notice small bubbles appearing and the batter becoming smoother on top, that means its time to flip the pancake! Wait another 2-3 minutes till the pancake is a golden brown.
- Throw the remaining chopped fruit/berries into a saucepan with a generous helping of sugar (around 1 tbsp.) and a dollop of any fruit jam you may have in the fridge for extra sweetness. Let this gently simmer for 3-5 minutes or until the fruit has softened.
- Serve the pancakes with a generous squeeze of maple/golden syrup and spoonfuls of fruit compote. Dust with icing sugar for the final wow.
- Enjoy.

Moist Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing!
We were inspired by a recipe for a Tropical Carrot Cake on the BBC Good Food website using a few extra ingredients that you wouldn't find in a classic carrot cake. Adding banana and pineapple pieces make it deliciously moist, one slice will never be enough!
Cake mix
. 250g/9oz plain flour
. 2 tsp baking powder
. 1 tsp salt
. 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
. 150g/6oz light brown sugar
. 220g/8oz canned pineapple slices (chopped into small pieces)
. 2 very ripe bananas (mashed)
. 150g/5oz carrots grated (about 2 large carrots)
. 150ml/5fl oz corn oil
. 3 organic eggs (free range are fine too!)
Icing
. 125g/4oz butter, softened and extra for greasing tin
. 225g/8oz cream cheese
. 450g/1lb icing sugar
. 1 tsp vanilla extract
. walnuts or pecans to decorate
- Preheat the oven to 160C/320F/Gas 2.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and mix well.
- Add the sugar, walnuts, pineapple, mashed banana, grated carrot, oil and eggs and mix well.
- Pour the cake mixture into a greased medium sized cake tin and place into the oven to bake for 1-1¼ hours, or until cooked through. Test by pushing a skewer into the centre of the cake. If the skewer comes out clean the cake is ready.
- If the cake top is browning too much, cover with a circle of kitchen foil.
- Remove from the oven when ready and allow to cool on a wire rack.
- For the icing, beat the butter and cheese together in a clean bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add sugar and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Once the cake is cool, remove from the cake tin and spread the icing all over the cake.
- Decorate the cake with a few crushed pecans and serve in generous slices (with tea).

See SewLomax at the Selvedge Spring Fair!
Firstly – Im SO PROUD to have been voted as

This weekend it is the Selvedge Spring
Fair, which is held in Chelsea Old Town Hall in Chelsea, London. Im really
excited about this event, and there will be over 100 other stalls and companies
like mine at the fair so you’re guaranteed to find something brilliant and
(more importantly) handmade and ethical that takes your fancy!

The Book Bag Tote
We all need at least two handbags, (or maybe some sort of small mule/cart horse to carry all of our things around with us everyday!) but taking in to consideration how busy it gets on the tube this would not work. So I came up with my embroidered tote bags, which can help you carry around those extra essentials.
The Bikini Tote
I used to have a bikini like this when I was little, and I have been looking for one just like it ever since I grew out of it, so I have recreated it on a bag. For me - on the beach or by the pool - I always get worried about having my phone in the bottom of the bag, risking getting covered in sun cream, so I made sure whilst designing this bag that there are some zipped pockets on the inside, preventing this situation from occurring,

Summer saving starts now! The story behind my Penny Purse..
Well, since my last post the sun has been and gone already! Its even been snowing in the UK, so summer is a long way off I think. So, now is the perfect time to start thinking about sunshine and sandy beaches and swimming in the sea - time to book your summer holiday!
But unfortunately, we all know that wanting to go on holiday isn't enough to be able to actually do it, and most of the time some saving needs to be done. So, whilst cutting back on spending in the run up to your trip away isn't exactly fun, make it more enjoyable with a Sewlomax canvas Penny Purse!
This embroidered purse was inspired by my lovely Mum! My mother is called Penny and so I wanted to do a design specifically for her to say thank you for teaching me all the tricks of the trade. The story behind the SewLomax poo bag!
Believe it or not, spring is finally on its way in the next few weeks! It feels like winter has dragged on and on this year, and every time the sun peeks out from behind the clouds, a few more cold days come along and scare it away!
But if theres anyone who loves the outdoors, no matter what the weather's doing, its dogs! Now I'm a firm believer that pets should be spoilt too, so I made sure I designed an embroidered canvas bag in my collection for them too!

Given up cakes for lent? Find out why I designed my cupcake wash bag..
February is one of my favourite months - only 20 days at work, Valentine's Day and best of all - Pancake Day!!
But after pancake day comes Lent, where everyone tries to give up chocolate, or biscuits, or cake (or anything yummy but bad for you!) until Easter. But don't worry, you can still get your cake fix thanks to my embroidered cupcake wash bag - all of the pleasure without any of the guilt!
This tapestry was put on the wash bag by popular demand. The general collection answers to a rule; that what is on the bag, the bag functions as. A little treat for single girls: the story behind my lipstick pouch
There's nothing I like more than hearing how much people love my embroidered canvas bags, and the most popular one of all is probably the lipstick pouch. Today I thought Id give you a little sneak peek into how I came up with the design for the embroidered lipstick pouch, and what my inspiration for it was:
The inspiration for this came from all the rows and rows of beautiful lipsticks laid out in make up halls, and the excitement of buying a new lipstick. To me they always look like little people chatting to each other and they look like they all have their own personalities! These are the personalities I wanted to put down onto the bag for other people to enjoy.
